Not a Latin lover

The recent passing of former Gov. George M. Leader reminded me of when I was a high school Latin student at New Kensington High School in the late 1950s. As an extra credit project I sent letters to several prominent people asking their opinions about the value of studying Latin.

Gov. Leader was gracious enough to send me a thoughtful response, though I think my teacher was disappointed that he did not express much enthusiasm for studying the language. Fortunately, several other correspondents were more enthusiastic about my course of study.
