Endorsement puzzle

Why on earth would the Post-Gazette endorse a candidate like Jack Wagner ("Wagner for Mayor," May 5), especially over someone as progressive and dedicated as Bill Peduto? The only explanation I can come up with is an utterly naive and misguided effort to persuade someone that the Post-Gazette has no liberal editorial bias.

Is anyone expecting the Trib to start endorsing progressive candidates for similar reasons? Does anyone believe that the occasional endorsement of a conservative dinosaur will bring right-wing readers to the PG?

What could possibly go wrong with such an editorial strategy? The Post-Gazette endorsed Tom Corbett for governor. We all know how great that's turned out for Pennsylvania.
