Miller for the House

Over a period of years I've watched both candidates running in the special election to represent the 42nd District in the state House, and I believe Democrat Dan Miller is the clear choice over Republican Dan Remely.

Mr. Miller is a special education attorney and a former president of the Mt. Lebanon Commission. He helped save the township hundreds of thousands of dollars by eliminating the parking authority, sponsoring balanced budget legislation and cutting debt by eliminating unnecessary spending.

He helped establish the Mt. Lebanon Veterans Memorial, bring televised commission meetings to the public, improve recycling and simultaneously served as a volunteer fireman, earning commendations for that work.

Mr. Remely, a businessman, is also running for re-election to the Mt. Lebanon school board, which is busy with a $109 million renovation and addition project. Mr. Remely acknowledges the cost could have been less without, in his words, "all the bells and whistles." He did nothing publicly to eliminate those tax-increasing extravagances. Nor did he do anything to curb the costly all-night burning of Mt. Lebanon stadium lights until the board was forced to comply with a township ordinance against intrusive lighting.

Based on their records in public service, Dan Miller is the clear choice.
