UPMC generosity

How lucky the people of Pittsburgh have been. In the world of fresh and new, UPMC has developed a transitional care unit out of one hospital that could have been easily abandoned (South Side); created a fresh new and green hospital out of another failing hospital (St. Francis-Children's); took another inner-city depreciating hospital (Mercy) and let it thrive with financial support to reinvent it and staff it with quality physicians.

As far as the students of Pittsburgh, how lucky to have the opportunity to go to school beyond secondary school. I have been a UPMC employee for 13 years. Yes indeed, we do things outside the city, county and nation, but isn't it interesting that we provide so much to the people of our roots. I bet if you look close enough, you will find that has always been our mission, from the very start of Presbyterian Hospital and the University of Pittsburgh.

How come we are not talking about all of it, not just what we don't do? Our institutions set an example, and ask us as employees to do the same, in our work and in our homes and in our communities. Those who believe we need to pay up are like some spoiled child who didn't feel that they got their fair share of the cookies. Grow up, be thankful and contribute.
