Regarding Tony Norman's Dec. 7 column "Modern GOP Has Its Own Disabilities" criticizing Rick Santorum for speaking out against the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, I find it odd that Mr. Norman goes on and on with his own level of mendacity about why the former senator, among others, rejected the treaty but he doesn't tell the senator's basic reason, as vividly outlined and quoted in The Daily Beast. "If I thought for a second that the United States ratifying CRPD would help people in the U.S. with disabilities or people overseas like our Bella, I would support it. But it will not."
For those of you who may not know, Rick Santorum's daughter Bella has Trisomy 18, a very crippling mental and physical disability. I think Mr. Santorum would know enough about the treaty to decide whether to support or reject it.
