A losing strategy

When former Pirates player Connie Mack owned the Philadelphia Athletics he once said, "It is more profitable for me to have a team that is in contention for most of the season but finishes about fourth. A team like that will draw well enough during the first part of the season to show a profit for the year, and you don't have to give the players raises when they don't win."

Obviously, the Nuttings have taken this quote and run with it. I think the fans have enough proof that the current Pirates ownership will never do what it takes to have a winning season. Pirates management has said that they will obtain players to help them win when the time comes.

Well, that time has come and gone twice -- last year and this year -- and all that the Pirates have done is trade for stiffs who could never put the team in a position to win. And we are surprised?
