Saturday Poem / The Past is a Thief

The thing

about the present

is that

it’s always there

for the

taking.

Live in the moment!

but the steam of that

moment’s already

evaporated.

I can’t handle

that pressure.

I know I’ll

miss one

and then

miss the next

worrying

about that.

This life is all memory,

concentric

circles surrounding the

moment your

pebble entered

the pond.

There’s just

no way,

no how

to experience

the here,

the now

when the past

has my present

surrounded.
