We’ll pay

In a television commercial, Tom Wolf, candidate for governor of Pennsylvania, says he will collect $550 million by imposing an extraction tax on natural gas drillers and give the money to education. Sounds great? Yeah! Right!

Let’s back up to last year when the state imposed a tax on gasoline wholesalers. Who is paying that tax? We, the consumers. Prices have risen at the pumps to pay the tax.

Because of the abundance of natural gas from Marcellus Shale we currently enjoy reasonable gas prices to heat our homes. If Mr. Wolf is able to levy his proposed $550 million tax on the drillers, who will eventually pay the increase? We, the consumers. We will be the victims of indirect taxation.

Give the consumers a break, Mr. Wolf. Especially those of us who are retired and living on fixed incomes.
