Parents are key

As a retired teacher, I would like to applaud the candor of Tony Norman in his column concerning the learning gap. Creating a home environment that celebrates a child’s academic success as much as it would the scoring of a touchdown is the key to that child’s future. Having a community of concerned active parents is essential for the students to reach their full potential of achievement in the classroom.

A safe, consistently disciplined school campus where students can be proud of their academics should be the goal and parents are the cornerstone in the foundation of that campus. Accepting that responsibility is difficult, but the results could be world changing.
