Where was NSA?

First 40 million and now 70 Million (“Data on 70 million Collected in Target Heist, ” Jan. 11). We can quibble over whether it’s 110 million unique people, but clearly a shocking portion of the U.S. population has been compromised.

So where was the National Security Agency?

Here are multiple electronic crimes. Criminals took electronic information at least twice using electronic networks. These global networks are dominated and monitored by the NSA. The NSA routinely shares information with select organizations, the latest ones revealed being central banks. Yet about one-third of the U.S. population was victimized.

It’s scandalous that even when the NSA unilaterally abolishes the Fourth Amendment to look for a needle in a haystack, it doesn’t notice, or doesn’t care, when someone steals the haystack. Even more scandalous is that Congress surrenders to the NSA’s unconstitutional demand that democratic oversight be replaced with a totalitarian blackout.

While the Target thieves compromised 110 million people, they’re amateurs.

By monitoring just 535 members of Congress the NSA can compromise the entire world.
