Greene County COMMISSIONER4-year term; vote for no more than 2 QUESTION ASKED: What specific steps would you take to attract business to Greene County? REPUBLICAN Scott A. Blair IIAge: 54; Franklin Township EDUCATION: Waynesburg Central High School; Robert Morris College. OCCUPATION: Owns business selling farm supplies. QUALIFICATIONS: Have done some legislative work for the farm bureau so I understand how politics work. My biggest qualification is my concern for Greene County. ANSWER TO QUESTION: I plan to get more money from the state and involve the coal companies in deciding where we can put water. Theyve long walled under a lot of these rural areas and it would just break the water lines if we put them in the wrong places. I do have a plan for doing this, but I would like to keep it to myself until I am elected. John R. Gardner Age: 60; Franklin Township EDUCATION: B.S., Waynesburg College OCCUPATION: County commissioner QUALIFICATIONS: Until three or four years ago nothing was happening in Greene County. The infrastructure wasnt being upgraded. The industrial authority wasnt being developed. We did all that and brought in new business. We also have replaced five bridges and havent raised taxes in two years. Financially, were sitting very well. ANSWER TO QUESTION: I would like to keep on making the improvements we have been making. We have also been very progressive in economic development and infrastructure enhancement. ANSWER TO QUESTION: I plan to continue with this progressive development and work with local township officials to continue getting grant money for development. I am also going to work with the water and sewage authorities on infrastructure improvements and work with our school districts to upgrade our educational tools to make our employee pool more attractive to potential employers. Graduated from Duquesne University School of Law OCCUPATION: County commissioner QUALIFICATIONS: Ive focused on the issues of the county economy and its dependence upon industries, such as coal, oil and gas, that are no longer reliable. Realizing that we need to diversify those industries, I have helped to create a new industrial park along the interstate and attracted two new businesses. Weve also made improvements to our infrastructure. ANSWER TO QUESTION: We still need to diversify our economy and were going to do that by trying to bring new business to the industrial park.
