PG Benchmarks wants you. And we want your ideas on how to fulfill the promise of
Oakland. We are seeking ideas on how to make Oakland the most vibrant and beautiful urban
university hub in America.
What can be done to dramatically improve Oakland so that it is known around the country
as a singular center of culture, learning, excitement and fun?
Were looking for plans and ideas -- from amateurs and professionals. Include
drawings and schematics if you desire. Or just say it in words. Be specific, where you
can. Were interested in macro and micro, from the sweeping to the subtle.
And we want that sublime blend of inspiration and practicality that infuses concepts
that can go from pencil marks to groundbreaking.
And speaking of groundbreaking, the entrants with the best ideas will win an audience
with Mayor Murphy and the chance to sell him on the project.
If you dont like competitions, then view this as a call for community input. All
serious submissions will be published in our end-of-the-year Benchmarks on Dec. 26.
So if you are someone who has good ideas, and youre interested in leaving your
mark on this region, take us up on the challenge. Help make Oakland the best that it can
be.
Time, however, is not long. The deadline is Dec. 3. So get to work. Send entries
through the mail to PG Benchmarks c/o The Post-Gazette, 34 Blvd. of the Allies, Pgh., Pa.
15222. Or, even better, e-mail them to dheuck@post-gazette.com. If you have any questions
contact us at 412-263-1479 or by e-mail.
