South Korea: U.S. Joins War Drills

South Korea and the United States began another round of military drills on Monday. In the past, North Korea denounced the drills as a rehearsal for an invasion, but on Tuesday its criticism was less harsh, which analysts said was a sign of the North's interest in continuing diplomacy. The drills, which continue until Aug. 30, involve 30,000 American and 50,000 South Korean troops in computer-simulated war exercises.
