The police procession to Thursday's 11 a.m. memorial for Port Authority K-9 Officer Aren will cause temporary traffic disruptions Downtown and on the North Shore.
The procession begins at 10:15 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. East Busway in Wilkinsburg, near where Aren was stabbed to death on Sunday.
It will travel on the busway to Downtown, turn left on Liberty Avenue, left on 11th Street, left on Fort Duquesne Boulevard, right across the Clemente Bridge, turn left on West General Robinson Street and left again at Chuck Noll Way to the police memorial along North Shore Drive.
Downtown streets and those on the North Shore will have some traffic delays as the procession moves through.
Exits from Interstate 279 to the North Shore are expected to be closed for about 15 minutes around 10:30 a.m. so the procession can pass.
On the North Shore, police will post “no parking” signs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on North Shore Drive from Casino Drive to Mazeroski Way and Art Rooney Avenue from North Shore Drive to Reedsdale Street to allow parking for those in the procession.
Police plan to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction on North Shore Drive during the memorial.
After the memorial, which is expected to last about an hour, attendees will leave on their own. Officers will be on duty to move traffic through the area as quickly as possible.
