With warm weather expected this weekend, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced road work scheduled throughout the region.
The list includes the closing of the inbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel this weekend, the next-to-the-last full closure in the three-year, $49.5 million rehabilitation project.
The tunnel closed at 9 p.m. Friday and is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. The outbound tunnel will stay open although there may be brief traffic stoppages as equipment is moved.
On Interstate 79, line painting is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in both directions between Neville Island and the Butler County line.
PennDOT urges drivers to stay at least 250 feet behind paint trucks, which will pull off periodically to allow traffic to pass. The department said it is not responsible for paint damage to vehicles.
On the Parkway West in Findlay and Moon, repairs to concrete barriers will cause occasional lane closures today. Left-lane closures in both directions are possible from 7 a.m. to noon between Robinson Town Centre Boulevard and Montour Run Road.
In addition, the inbound side will have single-lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today between Flaugherty Run Road and McClaren Road in Findlay for joint repairs
On Route 28, the northbound lane will be closed today between the Highland Park Bridge and Blawnox interchanges. Crews will repair joints from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Traffic from the Highland Park Bridge onto the ramp to northbound Route 28 will have a stop sign.
Campbell Road in West Deer will close from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. today for repairs between Route 910 and Saxonburg Boulevard. Traffic will be detoured via Saxonburg Boulevard, Harts Run Road, Middle Road and Gibsonia Road-Route 910.
Other work is set to begin Monday, weather permitting, including resurfacing work on Perry Highway (Route 19) in West View. Perry Highway will be closed between Center Avenue and West View Park Drive, beginning at 8 a.m. Monday and continuing through July 4.
Lane restrictions on Saw Mill Run Boulevard (Route 51) in the city and Whitehall will continue Monday, weather permitting.
There will be single-lane closures as needed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays.
The schedule includes a northbound lane closure Monday through Friday between Fairhaven Road and Underwood Street so that Verizon crews can splice lines.
A southbound lane closure is planned from Monday through June 13 between Fairhaven Road and Steward Avenue so Columbia Gas can install a new gas line.
