A 24-year-old McKees Rocks woman faces multiple charges after a high-speed chase out of North Fayette Saturday night ended in a multi-vehicle crash on the Parkway West.
State police said there were several injuries, although the extent of the injuries was not released.
Authorities said both state and North Fayette police started chasing the woman after she allegedly stole $140 worth of merchandise from a Target store in North Fayette. The driver, whose identity was not released, eventually crashed into vehicles traveling in the inbound lanes of the Parkway West at the Interstate 79 interchange. She then hit a guardrail.
The crash, which occurred at 5:45 p.m., involved at least six cars, and the inbound lanes of the highway were shut down for at least an hour, police said.
The driver was taken into police custody and charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing and eluding police, retail theft and numerous traffic violations.
A witness said police were directing cars to the side of the road when the car they were chasing was speeding down the fast lane.
“She was flying,” she said. “She had to have been going at least 80 or 90 mph.”
