The Parkway East reopened this afternoon after a crash that stopped traffic for about 45 minutes.

The multivehicle crash occurred on the outbound side on the approach to the Squirrel Hill Tunnels shortly before 11:40 a.m. State and Pittsburgh police, along with city firefighters and medics, responded. One of the damaged vehicles caught fire.

The highway reopened at about 12:25 p.m. No information about possible injuries was immediately available. Outbound traffic backed up from the crash scene nearly to Downtown Pittsburgh before the crash was cleared.
