The reconstituted Port Authority board of directors, meeting for the first time, this morning elected Robert D. Hurley as its new chairman.

Mr. Hurley, 55, of Point Breeze, is senior deputy director of the Allegheny County Department of Economic Development. He succeeds attorney Jeffrey Letwin as chair of the 11-member panel that was created by state law this year to replace the former nine-member board that oversees public transit in the county. He will serve until the end of the year.

The vote for Mr. Hurley was 8-0, with two absent and one board seat unfilled. Board positions are unsalaried.
