A package of bills designed to allow school districts to reduce property taxes is headed to the House floor after clearing a committee vote Monday.

One proposal would let school districts increase their earned income tax rate to reduce property taxes; another would allow districts to replace property tax revenue through the enactment of other levies, such as business taxes; and a third bill proposes to amend the state Constitution to allow for the complete elimination of school district property taxes through existing homestead exclusions.

A spokesman for House Majority Leader Mike Turzai said the full House could vote on the bills Wednesday.
