Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett ordered flags to be lowered today in honor of a Shenango Township police officer killed during a traffic stop Thursday night.

Flags at the capitol complex and at municipal buildings in Lawrence County will fly at half-staff until sunset May 8, the day of Officer William J. McCarthy's funeral, according to a press release.

Officer McCarthy, 60, was killed when Kylee Barletto smashed into his police cruiser while fleeing other officers who tried to pull her over for driving erratically, police said.

Officer McCarthy's partner, Michael Lynch, was also seriously injured, but was released from the hospital last week.
