HARRISBURG -- State Rep. Sean Ramaley, D-Economy, was elected to the House in 2004 and is now running for the state Senate, seeking to fill the seat of Gerald LaValle, a Beaver County Democrat who is retiring.

As a lawmaker, Mr. Ramaley has fought to increase the state's minimum wage, expand property tax rebate programs and expand health care programs that benefit children and the elderly. He also has been involved in efforts to redevelop mill sites along the Ohio River.

Now he is the subject of a grand jury presentment for his alleged role in a government corruption scandal.

He attended Quigley High School in Economy, where he played many sports, and Allegheny College in Meadville, which named him Ethical Leader of the Year in 1997 when he was a senior. He has a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

Before his election to the House, Mr. Ramaley was a research and policy aide for the Ohio House of Representatives, focusing on school funding and other finance matters. He returned to Pennsylvania to manage political campaigns in the Pittsburgh region.

He is an attorney who has worked in private practice and for the U.S. Department of Labor.

He is co-founder and chairman of Keystone Leadership Development Corp., a non-profit company that manages programs to teach youth about leadership, government and service. He also served as assistant director and senior counselor of the American Legion's Keystone Boys State program, teaching high school juniors about government and service.

He serves on the advisory board to the Penn State Beaver campus.
