Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for voting in the general election today.

This is a municipal election year with voters selecting mayors, council members and school board members in many communities. The only statewide races are one contest for state Superior Court between Democrat Jack McVay of Allegheny County and Republican Vic Stabile of Cumberland County and retention votes on Supreme Court Justices Ronald Castille and Max Baer and Superior Court Judges Susan Peikes Gantman and Jack A. Panella.

Poll workers may ask voters to show identification but it is not required.

Allegheny County and Pittsburgh governments will operate as normal, including garbage collection. County courts are closed except for election issues. Pittsburgh Public Schools are closed.
