■ UPMC East is presenting “Gearing up for Golf,” free educational sessions looking at ways to improve your golf game and how to treat or prevent golf-related injuries, at 6-7:45 p.m. today. The event at the UPMC East Conference Center, ground level, 2775 Mosside Blvd., Monroeville, is free, as is parking and light refreshments. Speakers are orthopedic surgeon Albert Lin; Peter Micklewright, Edgewood Country Club golf pro; and Megan Carter, from the UPMC Centers for Rehab Services. Dr. Lin will discuss the treatment options for rotator cuff tears; Mr. Micklewright will demonstrate how to improve your golf swing; Ms. Carter will demonstrate the physical screening tool for golfers developed by the Titleist Performance Institute. ■ UPMC McKeesport Alive and Well Series is presenting free discussion and dinner as a guide to colon health and the need for colonscopy on Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Gastroenterologist Sudhir Narla will discuss the importance of having a colonoscopy screening at age 50 and learning your family history. The event will be in the Kelly Conference Center, Ground Floor, Kelly Building, 1500 Fifth Ave., McKeesport. Information booths will be set up until 6 p.m., when dinner is available. At 6:30, “Colon Health and Colonscopy — A Guide to Digestive Health” will be presented. Tips on how to prepare for the screening, the procedure and side effects also will be shared. ■ Mon-Vale Health Resources is sponsoring the following classes:

■ Allegheny Valley Hospital is sponsoring a Safe Sitter class for ages 11 and up from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its Destination Wellness health resource center, the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, 590 Pittsburgh Mills Circle, Frazer.
