Special events

• The Springdale Free Public Library, 331 School St., Springdale Borough, is holding an Individual Health Insurance Enrollment Fair from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday. Call 724-274-9729.

• University Health Services of Carnegie Mellon University, 5000 Fifth Ave., Oakland, is sponsoring “Crossing Boundaries, Transforming Lives: Exploring Health, Discovering Wellness” on Friday.

Included is a symposium, “Research into Practice: Health and Wellness for Ourselves and for Our Community,” followed by a panel discussion, to take place from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. In addition, the movie “Dallas Buyers Club” is being shown at 7:30 and 10 p.m. in McConomy Auditorium. Charity events

• The Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. is sponsoring a barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in the main lobby of Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll. Food is being supplied by Fourth Street Barbeque, with takeout available. For more information, call 724-258-1167.

• Vincentian Charitable Foundation is sponsoring an “Affair of the Heart” fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at LeMont Restaruant, Grandview Ave., Mount Washington. The cost is $115, and space is limited. Proceeds benefit Vincentian de Marillac and Marion Manor homes. To register, call 412-548-4056.

• Wesley Spectrum Services is sponsoring a spring gala from 6 to 10 p.m. March 8 at the Fairmont Hotel, 510 Market St., Downtown. The cost is $200, $1,500 for a table of eight and $2,000 for a table or 10, and the deadline is next Monday. Call 412-342-2337.

Seminars/lectures

• Passavant Hospital Foundation is presenting “Taking Care of Your Heart” at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cranberry Township Senior Center, 2525 Rochester Road. Speaker is Martha Bowman, cardiologist at the UPMC Heart & Vascular Institute at UPMC Passavant. Attendees are to receive blood pressure screenings. Call 412-748-6640.

• Mon-Vale Health Resources is sponsoring “Go Red Washington County,” including a healthy cooking demonstration with limited seating and samples afterward; a look at stress management techniques to help your heart, including a gentle yoga demonstration; and an “Innovations in Medicine” talk on heart health by a physician, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center of Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll, in recognition of American Heart Month. To register, call 724-258-1333.

— Babysitting Training, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Cost: $75.

— Adult CPR/AED, 8 to 11:30 a.m. Cost: $70.

— Adult first aid/CPR/AED, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cost: $90.

• Mon-Vale Health Resources is sponsoring a breastfeeding class from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. next Monday at its Mon-Vale HealthPLEX, 800 Plaza Drive, Rostraver. For more information, call 724-258-2229 ext. 9.

• Allegheny General Hospital is sponsoring a basic life support class for healthcare providers from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 25 at its Destination Wellness health resource center, the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills, 590 Pittsburgh Mills Circle, Frazer.
