The board of Pittsburgh Public Schools tonight approved a new policy permitting school buses and vehicles to be equipped with audio recording equipment.

The transportation policy states the equipment may be used for "school discipline and security purposes."

Students and their parents or guardians are to be notified each year by letter. A notice that students may be audio recorded "must be posted and clearly visible on each school bus or school vehicle that is furnished with audio-recording equipment."
