A student brought two pocket knives and a metal stake to school today, a spokeswoman for the Pittsburgh Public Schools said.

Ebony Pugh said a student alerted a teacher to two pocket knives and a metal stake that were found inside a locker used by a girl in the second grade at Pittsburgh Mifflin PreK-8 in Lincoln Place.

She said no one was injured.

Ms. Pugh said a report was filed with school district police and that "school-based disciplinary action" was given to the student in accordance with the district's policy on weapons. She declined to give further detail about the student's discipline, citing the child's age and privacy concerns.

Ms. Pugh said district officials were not sure why the girl brought the items to the school. She said the district notified parents of school students.
