A few students have been diagnosed with scabies at Pittsburgh King PreK-8, Pittsburgh Public Schools told parents in a letter Tuesday.

Principal Shana Nelson wrote that the cases did not originate at King, and that the school was disinfected Tuesday night.

Scabies, a mite infestation in the upper layer of skin, can be transferred through direct skin contact, and parents are asked to keep home children who may have scabies until they can be seen by a doctor, she said.
