The North Hills school board tonight approved a five-year contract with the teachers union that increases salaries by an average 3.7 percent annually, according to district officials.

The contract with the North Hills Education Association runs through August 2019. The union, which represents the district's 326 teachers, also ratified the contract today.

Under the new contract, teachers also will increase annual medical insurance contributions.

The previous three-year contract was set to expire Aug. 23.
