West Allegheny school board members voted 9-0 tonight to approve the retirement of John S. DiSanti, district superintendent for the past nine years.
Mr. DiSanti, 59, of North Fayette will depart the district June 30, when his three-year contract expires. He has held the post since January 2005.
“I don’t see this as a retirement from a career,” Mr. DiSanti said. “I just see it as a transition period for me to do something else.”
Next month, the school board will begin discussing plans for hiring a replacement, board president Debbie Mirich said.
“We respect his decision to retire,” she said. “He’s made us stronger, he’s made us better. We wish him only the best.”
