The Pittsburgh Public Schools board tonight agreed to ask the WPIAL to admit four schools as associate members in District 7 in some school sports.

The schools are Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, girls field hockey; Brashear High School, swimming for girls and boys; Carrick High School, volleyball for girls and boys as well as swimming for girls and boys; and Obama 6-12, volleyball for girls and boys.

The move came after input from coaches, players and parents. The competition levels in the school and the ability to have a full schedule were considered.

Tonight's vote was 7-2, with board members Mark Brentley Sr. and Floyd "Skip" McCrea opposed.

In September, the board voted to ask for the Westinghouse 6-12 football team to be part of WPIAL. The WPIAL decision hasn't been announced yet and isn't expected to be made until the PIAA classifications are released next month.
