A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation project to remove sediment from beneath three state-owned bridges in Oakdale is expected to wrap up Tuesday.
More than 1,200 tons of sediment will have been removed, borough council President Ron Gamble said tonight.
The aim was to help prevent future flooding by allowing Robinson Run and North Branch creeks to flow more freely beneath bridges on Noblestown Road and Clinton and Union avenues.
Oakdale also has cleaned out its storm sewers, and borough workers have begun a months-long debris cleanup along the creeks.
"It can't hurt, and I think it will help," maintenance supervisor Gary Lauderbaugh said.
