Starting this fall, some students attending Parkway West Career and Technology Center will be able to earn college credits at the Community College of Allegheny County West Hills Center.
The North Fayette schools have entered into a cooperative agreement to offer a dual enrollment program for high school students, West Allegheny school board member Robert Ostrander announced tonight at the West Allegheny school board meeting. West Allegheny is a member school of the Parkway West Career and Technology Center.
The pilot program will begin Oct. 8 in two of Parkway's programs -- public safety and health assistant -- at no cost to the student, he said.
"Our goal is to expand that into as many programs as there is interest for," Mr. Ostrander said.
Mr. Ostrander is secretary of the school board for Parkway, which serves 12 public school districts and two private schools.
West Allegheny superintendent John DiSanti said the program is a good opportunity. "We've been trying to get something like this for years, and it's happened under new leadership, so we're excited," he said.
