North Fayette supervisors voted 3-0 tonight to award a bid for a bridge replacement and to reject bids for construction of a new public works building.
The board awarded a $179,205 bid to Simmonds Construction Services LLC of Saxonburg to replace the Gormley Avenue bridge, which crosses Robinson Run next to Steele Auto Body on Noblestown Road. Work is expected to be done by winter.
The township will re-bid construction, plumbing, electrical and heating/ventilation/air conditioning services for a planned public works facility on North Branch Road.
Township manager Bob Grimm said the bids, totaling $2.4 million, exceeded the budget by about $400,000 to $600,000.
"This was really significantly higher than our hoped-for number," he said.
