Talk about bad timing.
A mechanical pump failed Friday, forcing Green Tree to close its municipal pool in the middle of the long holiday weekend -- typically one of the busiest times of the season.
The high temperature was 86 degrees and it was a perfect day for swimming.
But the borough's Wilson Park Pool was not open because of the machinery breakdown.
Borough manager David Montz said public works crews scrambled to find a new pump to minimize the time the pool was closed. They obtained a replacement part and installed it so that the pool would be ready for the hot and humid weekend.
Mr. Montz estimated that between 400 and 500 swimmers used the pool last Thursday, the day before the pump failure.
Late Friday afternoon, the borough sent out an alert notice to let residents know that the repair was complete and that the pool would be open for the weekend.
The news was posted on the borough website, too.
Apparently, word spread fast because the pool had big crowds on Saturday and Sunday.
The municipal pool is open from noon to 8 p.m. daily.
