An Aliquippa man tried to buy an unregistered gun so he could shoot an officer and another man as part of an apparent effort to "vindicate" his father, police said.
Derrell Jackson, 23, remains in the Beaver County Jail, where he was taken after he was arrested Thursday on charges of soliciting homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide and victim retaliation.
Assistant Aliquippa police Chief Don Couch said police received several reports from an informant who told them that Mr. Jackson told him he wanted to buy a gun.
The informant told police Mr. Jackson intended to shoot an unspecified police officer and a man named Eric Penn, a victim in an aggravated assault case in which Mr. Jackson's father, Llewellyn English, was the suspect, Chief Couch said.
"Llewellyn English just recently got out of jail and for whatever reason his son wants to vindicate his father by shooting Eric Penn and a police officer," Chief Couch said.
Mr. Jackson's criminal history includes guilty pleas to two drug charges in the past two years.
