In observance of Earth Day weekend and as part of the Great PA Cleanup, various cleanup programs are being sponsored by some West towns:
The Carnegie Shade Tree Commission is looking for volunteers starting at 9 a.m. Saturday to help plant 40 free trees provided by TreeVitalize. The program will take place rain or shine
Volunteers should gather at 9 a.m. at the 3rd Street Gallery, 220 Third St.
Participants should wear long pants and boots or sturdy shoes.

The township is sponsoring a community cleanup event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine.
Volunteers should meet at the Community Room at the Collier Municipal Building on Hilltop Road.

The borough will conduct its sixth Let's Redd Up Heidelberg event starting at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ellsworth Avenue Playground.
Volunteers will pick up litter, plant trees and take part in other activities. Participants will be provided with bags, gloves, supplies, safety vests and refreshments. Individuals, groups or students seeking volunteer hours can register at the borough building by calling 412-276-0363.
Also, the borough will provide three 30-yard dumpsters for household waste that residents couldn't otherwise dispose of during weekly pickup.
The dumpsters will be placed at the Ellsworth Avenue Playground, Zero Street Tot-Lot and Heidelberg Park. There is no fee for disposing of waste.
The program is for residential waste only and it should be compacted to maximize the capacity of the dumpsters. Items that can't be accepted are tires, Freon, liquid paint, car parts and hazardous materials.
The township and Neville Green are sponsoring a community cleanup starting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers from the community and local industries will meet at the Neville Island Volunteer Fire Station, 5300 Grand Ave.
D.T.E. Shenango Energy is donating safety vests, trash bags and gloves. W.K. Merriman Inc. is providing water. The nonprofit group Neville Green will provide coffee and doughnuts. To join volunteers, call Dorothy, 412-262-3620, or come to the fire station.
The township will participate in the Great PA Cleanup from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, rain or shine. Cleanup materials will be provided.
Volunteers should gather at the Scott Township Municipal Building at the corner of Lindsay and Greentree roads. Children are welcome, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Long pants, sturdy shoes and comfortable clothing are recommended.
