West Allegheny school directors and staff recognized Superintendent John S. DiSanti tonight for being named recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Educator Award from the University of Pittsburgh's Tri-State Area School Study Council.
The school board presented him with a plaque and 14 balloons, and president Debbie Mirich proclaimed Thursday as "Dr. John DiSanti Day" in the school district.
"I appreciate your tireless dedication as school superintendent, and I respect you for it," board member Linda Diffendal said. "You are completely deserving of this prestigious award."
Representatives of the administrative staff and of the teachers union offered their congratulations and gave the superintendent engraved gifts.
Five high school band students played "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow" on trumpets, French horn and tuba -- Joey Bandi, Eric Finkelstein, Ray Haim, Noah Macek and Missy Radovich.
Mr. DiSanti said he shares the award with the school community. "We've accomplished a tremendous amount here together," he said.
