Oakdale council tonight declined to move forward with rezoning the two-acre site of the former Joy dog food factory on Union Avenue.
As a result, property owner Tom Robinson of Peters continues to be prohibited from building a proposed Dollar General store, bank and shopping plaza.
Borough attorney Vince Tucceri said council either could vote to hold a public hearing to consider changing the zoning to commercial, or they could take no action and leave the zoning as industrial.
None of the five council members took action.
Vice president Bud Sturgeon said after the meeting that council isn't ruling out the possibility of rezoning the site in the future to accommodate a different proposal. "If we think it would be a better fit for Oakdale, we'd be very open to it," he said.
Mr. Robinson was frustrated by council's decision. "They are not looking for a tax base," he said. "All they want is old-town Oakdale."
