School directors have approved a $24,600 contract with Thomas & Williamson to serve as construction manager for the district's building renovations at Crafton Elementary, Carnegie Elementary and the junior-senior high school.

The vote was 7-0. Joe Appel and Patti Schirripa were absent. The proposal outlines the scope of work or predesign services that will lay out a priority list for renovations for the district, based on interviews with board members, administrators and professional staff.

• High school teachers and staff will sponsor a Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 8 in the high school cafeteria to raise funds for Food4Kids, a national backpack program that provides food on weekends for lower-income families.

Each Friday, backpacks will be filled with items such as peanut butter, jelly, cereal, canned fruits and vegetables, spaghetti sauce and pasta and sent home with children who can enjoy the nutritious items over the weekend.

The backpacks will be refilled every week. The program is operated in conjunction with the National School Lunch program.

The breakfast menu will include hot options for children of all ages. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children. Santa and Mrs. Claus will attend and there will be basket raffles, coloring contests, cookie decorating and entertainment.

South Fayette

"Scrooge, the Musical" will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the high school theater. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children, with free admission for seniors citizens holding South Fayette Gold Cards.

West Allegheny

Karen Ruhl of Sewickley has been hired as a part-time, independent contractor at a rate of $22 per hour to handle public relations. She has worked independently under the name of Apex Communications since 1990.

• Middle school students on the sixth-grade Shark team recently raised more than $5,900 for the National Honor Society gift basket project by participating in a walk-a-thon called Trail for Toys.

The high school preschool program has openings in the classes for children who were 3 years old by Sept. 1 and who live in Findlay, North Fayette or Oakdale.

The sessions are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting Jan. 22 and continuing through the week of May 6.
