A man who was found on the side of a road with a self-inflicted gunshot has been charged in the death of an Aliquippa man who was slain in his home Tuesday.
Lawrence J. Rains, 46, of Center Township, is charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, robbery and firearms not to be carried without a license in the death of 58-year-old Richard L. Lincheck.
Mr. Rains is in serious condition at Allegheny General Hospital this morning, a hospital spokeswoman said. He will be arraigned when he is released, police said.
Police released few details about what they believed transpired. Beaver County coroner Teri Tatalovich-Rossi said Mr. Linchek was pronounced dead in his Elgin Street home at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday.
On Wednesday, about 7 p.m., Mr. Rains was found leaning against a guard rail on Kennedy Boulevard in Aliquippa. He had shot himself and was bleeding profusely from his face.
Police said Mr. Rains fit the description of a person of interest in the Lincheck case and later found evidence linking him to the crime.
Aliquippa Assistant Police Chief Donald A. Couch Jr. said Mr. Rains is accused of stealing prescription medicine from Mr. Lincheck. He also said the men were acquaintances.
