A Beaver County man who once set rushing records for high school football pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to robbing an Ambridge bank last summer, charges he faced after police caught him following a two-minute chase.
Keith Fisher, 46, of Baden, faces a March 1 sentencing on charges of bank robbery and armed bank robbery in connection with a heist at the Huntington Bank on Merchant Street in Ambridge. According to a criminal complaint, Mr. Fisher told police he robbed the bank because he was struggling to pay for food, clothing and housing.
Two officers -- one from Ambridge and one from Baden -- were across the street when the call came in and saw the robber, now identified as Mr. Fisher, run out of the bank and flee toward a nearby porch, where they spotted him changing clothes. Next to him was a cooler containing a white plastic bag with $5,548 -- the amount stolen from the bank.
Mr. Fisher graduated from Ambridge Area High School in 1984 as the leading rusher in Western Pennsylvania, according to newspaper accounts at the time.
