Electronics recycling collection
The Moon Environmental Advisory Council and JVS Environmental will collect electronic items for recycling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside the township building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Items that will be collected include printers, copiers, computers, laptops and televisions. Collections are open to residents and businesses from Moon and surrounding communities.
Greentree Road closings scheduled
Sections of Old Washington Pike and Greentree Road will be closed from 8 p.m. Fridays through 6 a.m. Mondays for the next three weekends: Friday through Monday, Nov. 2-5 and Nov. 9-12. Signs will be posted to guide motorists, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The $6.8 million, 3.5-mile project will upgrade Route 50. Swank Associated Cos. of New Kensington is the prime contractor.
West Hills Symphonic Band to open season
Several accomplished high school musicians will perform as part of the 70-member West Hills Symphonic Band in its free season-opening concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at West Allegheny High School, 205 West Allegheny Road.
Montour's Kelsey Benigni is a percussionist; Carlynton's Joe Baldanzi plays alto saxophone; West Allegheny's Ray Haim plays trumpet; Kayla Greer plays bassoon; Jodi Kutzner and Grace Rosus play clarinet; and Megan Howard plays horn.
Also featured are solo works by clarinetist Janice Coppola and flutist Jamie Kasper. Gary McKeever, former director of bands at Baldwin High School, is guest conductor.
Film on domestic violence homicide
A free showing of the film "Telling Amy's Story," will be held at 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Student Union auditorium at Penn State Beaver Campus.
The public event is presented by Penn State Beaver Voices Against Violence and the climate and diversity committees, Crisis Center North and the Women's Center of Beaver County.
The film tells the story of a domestic violence homicide that occurred on Nov. 8, 2001.
