A preliminary hearing for three prison inmates accused of killing an Aliquippa man in 2006 has been postponed after two of them made a brief court appearance and rescheduled for April 6.

Two Aliquippa brothers -- Billy Love Dawkins Jr., 27, and Travon Jamar Dawkins, 24 -- along with Rhett Damar Spears, 27, are charged with using an AK-47 and a 9 mm pistol to open fire on a house on Gregory Street on Oct. 21, 2006, killing Jordan F. Cain, 20.

Mr. Cain was not involved in criminal activity, according to the district attorney's office and Aliquippa police.

The Dawkins brothers appeared Thursday in Beaver County Central Court, but neither had a lawyer and the case was pushed back until they get one.

All three suspects were indicted by a federal grand jury in 2008 and pleaded guilty to their roles in a violent interstate drug ring based in Aliquippa's Linmar Terrace public housing complex and run by Anthony A. Dorsett, 34, nephew of NFL Hall of Famer Tony Dorsett.

Anthony Dorsett, who has also pleaded guilty, testified against the others in the federal case and is one of the main witnesses against them in the murder case. He is scheduled to be sentenced in U.S. District Court April 28.
