South Fayette commissioners agreed tonight to hire a consulting engineering firm to review application materials for a proposed Marcellus Shale natural gas well project.
The vote was 4-0, with one member absent, to hire Lennon, Smith, Souleret Engineering Inc. of Coraopolis to provide review and comment. The rates for engineers range from about $71 to $112 per hour.
"They have special expertise in oil and gas well review," board president Deron Gabriel said.
Property owner John A. Kosky and driller Range Resources have applied for a permit from the state Department of Environmental Protection for a project on Cecil-Sturgeon Road, Mr. Gabriel said.
The proposal is for the Cuddy area of South Fayette, on the former Campbell Airport property, township manager Ryan Eggleston said.
