Bethel Park -- The Bethel Park Lions will hold a fall fish fry, which consists of fried or baked fish or shrimp dinners with cole slaw, french fries or macaroni and cheese, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 13 at Lions Park, 5757 Irishtown Road. Cost is $9. Takeout is available. Proceeds benefit Lions charities.

Whitehall -- The Southwestern Pennsylvania Registered Nurses Club will hold its 14th annual fall card party from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 28 at South Hills Country Club, 4305 Brownsville Road. All proceeds are for the nursing scholarship fund. Admission is $25, which includes lunch and door prizes. Tickets for a ticket auction, share the wealth and a raffle will be sold at the event. Dormont -- A farmers market is held from 4 to 7 p.m. each Monday through Oct. 28 at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church parking lot, Alabama and West Liberty avenues.

Pleasant Hills -- The Pleasant Hills Lions Club holds a farmers market from 3:30 to 7 p.m. each Thursday through Oct. 17 in the parking lot of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, 199 Old Clairton Road.


Whitehall -- The Whitehall Public Library, at 100 Borough Park Drive, will offer free smoking cessation classes for adults ages 18 and older at 7 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 4 through Oct. 9. Online registration required: or 412-882-6622.


Nottingham -- The Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation will offer 50-minute group hayrides, accommodating 25 people an hour, in Mingo Creek County Park on Fridays and Saturdays in October. Hayrides will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11, 18 and 25; 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12; and 1 to 8 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26. Cost is $50 per hayride. Call the parks office to reserve a time: 724-228-6867.

Whitehall -- A series of outdoor tai chi classes for adults taught by fitness instructor Don DeMasters will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays from Tuesday to Oct. 1 at Brennan Plaza at the Whitehall Public Library, 100 Borough Park Drive. Peters -- Donate blood from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Peters Township Public Library, 616 E. McMurray Road. Donors will receive two Pittsburgh Pirates tickets in the mail. Jefferson Hills -- West Jefferson Hills Historical Society will hold its August meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jefferson Hills Municipal Center, 925 Old Clairton Road. Speaker will be Tim Tokosh, a member of the Antique Bottle Collectors Club of Pittsburgh. Attendees are encouraged to bring bottles or crocks to share with the group.
