The Peters Township School District on Monday voted to reorganize its central office with changes that will save taxpayers more than $43,000 this year in salary and benefits, district spokeswoman Shelly Belcher said.
The reorganization involves a combination of newly created positions, changes in the scope of work and corresponding titles for current staff. It will provide a structure better suited to meet the needs of the district, Ms. Belcher said.
Patricia Kardambikis, formerly assistant to the superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment, was named assistant superintendent with an annual salary of $118,000.
In addition to current responsibilities in the areas of curriculum development and classroom assessments, the position will address policies, comprehensive planning, home schooling and homebound instruction and continue to oversee the K-12 counseling and nursing staff, Ms. Belcher said.
The director of human resources position was eliminated in favor of a new position, assistant superintendent for performance management, which will be filled by Jennifer Murphy, Pittsburgh Public Schools instructional leadership specialist.
Ms. Murphy, who will be paid $113,000 annually, previously served as principal and assistant principal in the district's Brashear and Carrick high schools.
In her new position in Peters, she will oversee teacher and principal effectiveness in the district in accordance with Act 82 as well as professional development for all staff. Statewide assessments also will fall under the performance management purview as well as establishing goals and performance metrics to meet desired district outcomes, Ms. Belcher said.
Patricia Kelly, former director of special education, is being reassigned to the new position of director of pupil personnel at a yearly salary of $99,600.
In addition to special education responsibilities, the position will oversee all gifted services and English as a Second Language programs. The position also will supervise student services, outside placements, extended school year services and the district's intervention program and student discipline. The pupil personnel director also will play a role in comprehensive planning and district policies, Ms. Belcher said.
The role of district business manager Vincent Belczyk also is changing. He will assume oversight of the human resource coordinator and all related functions including benefit plans, to more efficiently align staffing with the budget process, Ms. Belcher said. He will receive a salary bump of $6,500 for total compensation of $96,000 per year.
The position of director of staff development and instructional technology and director of technology was replaced with director of instructional technology. The district is searching for qualified applicants for the new, $75,000-per-year position, charged with overseeing technology staff and network operations and providing instructional leadership in the area of technology for principals and teachers in the classroom.
In addition, a support staff position in the technology department will be increased from part time to full time to meet growing demands. The position will continue to be filled by Bridget Kirwan.education - neigh_south - neigh_washington
