South Fayette commissioners plan to hold a public forum on the future of the former Star City Cinemas, a township-owned facility bought in the hope of using it as a civic center.
The township purchased the theater at the Bridgeville interchange of Interstate 79 with an eye toward its public use, but the plan has been put on hold because of potentially high operating and maintenance costs.
Officials now are considering whether to sell the property to a private developer and possibly build a civic center elsewhere.
"I know we don't have enough money to build the civic center that was envisioned by the previous board, so we would have to figure out how to make that happen," Commissioner Joe Horowitz said.
No date was set for the forum.neigh_west - neigh_south
