An ammonia leak in Whitehall that sent 11 employees of a dairy to the hospital is "well under control," said Donald Dolfi, Whitehall police chief.
A total of 11 Schneider's Dairy employees went to the hospital and six others were treated at the scene. Two complained of respiratory problems, Chief Dolfi said.
The injuries were considered minor in nature.
The leak occurred when water company workers trying to upgrade lines bent a pipe carrying ammonia, causing a leak, the chief said.
About 20 ambulances were on the location because officials were unsure of the number of employees involved.
"There are no immediate concerns and wasn't a real neighborhood crisis to call for an evacuation," said Alvin Henderson, chief of Allegheny County Emergency Services.
Chief Henderson said the county health department will continue to monitor the area, make sure the air is clean and no ammonia remains in the environment.
