A 61-year-old Ohio woman was killed and two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Fayette County this afternoon, Pennsylvania State Police said.
For reasons that aren't yet clear, Joyce E. McKinney and Robert McKinney, 75, both of Columbiana, Ohio, were riding their motorcycles north in the southbound lane of State Route 51 around 12:20 p.m., state police said in a news release.
An SUV driven by James Hickle, 78, of West Leisenring was in the oncoming lane, near 1156 Pittsburgh Road. Ms. McKinney tried to avoid a crash, state police said, but ultimately struck the vehicle head-on. Mr. McKinney then hit the wreckage.
Both McKinneys were wearing helmets, and Mr. Hickle was wearing a seatbelt.
Ms. McKinney was pronounced dead at an area hospital. Mr. McKinney suffered moderate injuries that appeared to be non life-threatening and was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Hickle reported minor injuries at the scene.
