Jesse Michelle Hinkle has been awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest recognition for achievement in Girl Scouting.
Miss Hinkle, daughter of Rick Hinkle and Leslee Mills-Hinkle, is a recent graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and will attend Chatham University.
A Girl Scout for 12 years, she is an Ambassador member of Troop 50969. Her project, "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle," began in December 2012 and was completed in May 2013.
Active in the Thomas Jefferson School District and in sports there and elsewhere, she found that no schools in her district or the public parks had a definitive method for recycling cans and bottles. Through her efforts, labeled recycling bins were put in all district schools and two parks.
With the help of Waste Management system, she organized a day of games and interactive recycling activities with third-grade classes in Jefferson Elementary School, where she had been a student.
